How to dress Yukata
Let's try Yukata on.
Wearing Yukata hastily before you leave contributes to make it come loose easily. Practice how to wear it in advance and take time for one hour at least. You can of course dress Yukata in 30 minutes when you get used to.
When you do your hair
If you fix your hair by yourself, do it before wearing Yukata. After wearing, Yukata comes undone or spoiled easily.
Check Yukata beforehand
Put the Yukata on a hanger a day ahead and check if it gets wrinkled. Iron the wrinkeles.
Do not forget to check the items needed to dress Yukata. It is convenient to use a full-length mirror.
Basic dressing of Yukata
1. First of all, hang a waist string folded in half, a Date-jime, an obi etc. on the chair so that you do not have to squat yourself down when you use them.
Wear underwear.
Stand in front of a mirror.
2. Wear the Yukata over the shoulders and straighten both panels.
Stand on the floor with your feet slightly narrower than shoulder-width apart. This posture is stable and makes room for the legs to move in comfort after dressing.
3. Holding 20 cm above the Erisaki of the Yukata, bring both overlaps to the front and hold together, adjust the Senui to come to the centre of your back. Continue to hold the panels together in front, with another hand, pull the waist point on the Senui to lift the hem up above the ankles.
4. Pull the Yukata tightly to the forward and release your hand behind. The length of the Yukata is adjusted.
5. Keep holding the Eri with both hands. Wrap the right Shitamae over the body to the left side.
Remember then that the centre of the back should not be off to the side!
Lift the right end about 10 cm.
If it reaches to the back, fold little bit to the front to adjust.
6. Wrap the left panel over. Pull the end of the panel about 5 cm up to fit tightly without sagging.
Keep holding the end with right hand on the hipbone to fix the length of the Yukata.
7. Take the centre of the Koshihimo with the left hand.
Give the Koshihimo to the right hand.
8. Keep holding the Yukata tight with both hands and slide the left hand to the left.
